Destin Weather in September
September in Destin averages highs around 88°F at the start of the month, easing to about 83°F by the end, with lows sliding from the mid-70s to around 69°F. Gulf water stays warm the whole month — roughly 84°F early on and still about 81°F by the 30th, which is warmer than most people expect this late in the season. Rainfall averages around four inches, usually in short afternoon storms rather than washed-out days. September is peak hurricane season, so it’s worth watching the forecast, but most trips see nothing more disruptive than an hour of rain.
Is September a Good Time to Visit Destin?
Yes — for a lot of people it’s the best month of the year here. Once Labor Day passes, the summer crowds thin out, but the water is still warm enough to swim all day and the boats are still running full schedules. Labor Day Weekend Fireworks
On the weekend of Labor Day, HarborWalk Village hosts a Labor Day Weekend Celebration. HarborWalk Village is known for hosting many events all year round. The Labor Day weekend event is a fun time for the whole weekend. It is full of live music, with bands going onto the main stage to get the crowd hyped up. The genre of music is for all ages to sing and dance to.
The evening runs on live music, and the crowd builds toward the fireworks show over the harbor — the moment everyone actually comes for. In 2026 Labor Day fell on Monday, September 7, so the celebration ran the first weekend of the month. Check HarborWalk Village’s event calendar for the current year’s lineup and set times before you go.
This is a great event to go to right as September is starting. All ages will enjoy the celebration, seeing many shows in one. If you are not staying close to the HarborWalk Village, the parking on-site is only a $20 fee for the whole day. Burgers, Bourbon & Beer Festival
To the people who like burgers, bourbon, and beer, this one is for you. The Burgers, Bourbon & Beer Festival will be hosting its 4th annual festival this September. The festival’s proceeds all go to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast. The festival is taking place by the Destin Harbor.
There, you will be able to taste many burgers while sipping different kinds of bourbon and beer. You get to see many different restaurants and people that compete to see who has the best burger in the Destin area.
The 6th Annual Burgers, Bourbon & Beer Festival runs Saturday, September 19, 2026, starting at 4 p.m. at 4323 Commons Drive West in Destin. Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs.
Three tickets are sold in advance: food only at $26.75, general admission at $48.15, and VIP at $107. General admission covers the burger tastings plus the bourbon and beer pours; VIP adds early entry and a shorter line at every table.
Not only are you going to be supporting an extraordinary cause, but you will be trying some really great food.
Destin Seafood Festival
Another September festival is the Destin Seafood Festival, held Friday through Sunday, September 25–27, 2026 on the Destin Harbor Boardwalk. Hours run 4–10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.–10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Sunday.
One highlight of this festival is that entry is free for all. What you need to have is money to purchase any food or merchandise from vendors. The food during the event is by several local chefs who have restaurants here in Destin. There are VIP tickets available to buy for a VIP experience.
Many locals and visitors go to the festival to support the area. It is excellent to bring the whole family with so many different vendors to explore. Many people volunteer for the event to help out since the event gets full.
Every year, the festival’s t-shirt is designed by a local artist. There is a vote to determine which design fits best for the festival. The design winners come from one adult and one child. Many local bands will be playing the day and night away while you are walking around. You will have a blast coming to and celebrating the Destin Seafood Festival this September.
